McKenna Jane Fariss

At 4:12 p.m. on June 3, 2009, we welcomed McKenna Jane Fariss to the world. A blessing and a gift from God, she was 7 lbs. 1.2 ounces and 19.5 inches long. Mom is doing great and we were able to come home from the hospital today. Sleep is at a premium, but we'll do what it takes. Family has been great to have around. It has been a lifetime of excitement in the last 72 hours, and I know we will have much more to share in the coming days. Thanks for all the prayers, support, and well-wishes from our friends and family!

T minus 24 hours...

24 hours and counting. Chelsea and I were able to go to Waxahachie this past weekend for her good friend Sheila's wedding reception. We were able to get some good pictures (we'll see how long it takes before she removes some of them), but Chelsea and her mom took a great picture.
Hopefully Chelsea got a good night's rest last night, and her and her mom are off to get pedicures today. Then it is up at 4 a.m. to grab some donuts for the nurses and report to the hospital at 5:30 a.m.
I will try my best to update and post as much as possible over the next few days. I would like to thank everyone for their prayers, support, and encouragment. Chelsea and I have been very blessed, and we are extremely grateful for all that we have and all that has been done!
17 hours and counting...

Sunday

Last day of the weekend and mom is not comfortable. I set the over/under for the number of times that she would get up to go to the restroom at 3.5. I believe I could have doubled that number last night and the over would still have come out on top. Nonetheless, we made church (one last time for a while for Chelsea), and are supposed to go to a wedding shower in Waxahachie today. The plan is to attend, but that could change in an instant. Once again, I would prefer to have a baby this last day of May so that I do not have to buy two June birthday presents (Chelsea's b-day is June 13), but that is looking less and less like it will occur.

I will admit that it was entertaining to watch MJF kick and move around during church this morning. Although I would prefer her not to play a communist sport (soccer), it appears she may be able to bend it like Beckham if her kicks to her mother are any indication. It is a hot day here in Dallas, so the sooner she gets here, the less uncomfortable her mother will be. Until that time, we watch and wait...

Blog-jacked

So I guess I need to start my own blog instead of hijacking Chelsea's, but this is so much easier. Maybe when MJF arrives, Chelsea will feel more like posting. Quiet weekend around the Fariss house. Trying to relax and enjoy a few more days before it is no longer just the two of us.

From our entertainment envelope, we took $20 last night, and we were thoroughly entertained. If you have not had the opportunity to visit Yogurtland, I would highly recommend it. Never have I seen so many flavors of frozen yogurt in one spot with a plethora of toppings. And the best part is that you do it yourself and pay buy the ounce. It is a dangerous thing when a pregnant person discovers something she loves, but thankfully it is not expensive, and she can only go at most 4 more days.

4 days and counting. No MJF yet, but she will have a rude awakening Wednesday morning around 5:30 a.m. when her peaceful and quiet world is turned upside-down. I guess it will be that way for everyone. Thankfully the doctor said that Chelsea could eat before we head in for the induction, so I am looking forward to her cooking a delicious breakfast before we leave. Have not yet decided what I want her to fix, but I have a few days to think. (I may lose my appetite once she reads this and hits me in the gut :) )

It's off to the farmer's market, sprouts, and a breakfast burrito from Market Street for my wife. It'll be a good day-

This much we know...

We will try this once again, in hopes that this time this silly computer does not mess everything up.

Here is where we stand as of Tuesday, May 26, 2009. After a restful Memorial Day of patiently waiting on McKenna to make up her mind, not much is new. We have had the car packed for 2 + weeks now, after being told that she is coming any day now. That was two weeks ago and I know there are some clothes in that bag that I could be wearing right now. Nontheless, what this child fails to realize, is that we have some days that work better than others in our schedules. This past weekend would have worked well, but today does not. It Tommorow or the rest of this week works well for me, but it would be nice if she were to wait until all of my students I work with have finished their final exams. The month of May also works well for me since Chelsea's birthday is in June and I can only afford one birthday present per month. I say all of this in jest, as my time is no longer my own, and for at least the next 18 years, my plans are subject to change. She is welcome to come whenenver she decides and until then, we will keep the car packed and gassed up.

As for Chelsea, she is still uncomfortable and growing more so by the minute, She is a trooper though, and she is patiently waiting and trying to keep herself busy. She will make a great mom once MJF finally gets here. It seems like it's been a long 9 months, but the end is at most 8 days away.

We had a great weekend spending time with two new sets of parents also. On Saturday evening the Belcher's had us over for a wonderful meal and time to admire there adorable daughter. We also spend time on Monday with the Carroll's, in hopes that their Makena could coax our McKenna into coming out. As of right now, no luck, but the Carroll's are great people and will be great parents, and we are blessed to have them so close as we venture into uncharted waters. We look forward to plugging into their small group in the next few months.

I guess the good news is that we have not had to make a false run to the hospital in the last 7 days. But when the time comes, be it this afternoon or the induction on June 3, we will be ready. Until then, we keep a watchful eye...

Hospital Trip #2

False alarm #2. Hoping that third trip to the hospital is a charm. If we don't bring something home next time, I am going to start charging McKenna Jane for toll and gas reimbursement.

Back Home to Wait

After getting the call from Chelsea today at 11:30, I left school to pick up Chelsea at work. Came home for some lunch and headed to the hospital (Dr.'s orders). Hooked her up to the gizmos and waited a while longer. 3 p.m.--sent us back home.

This is the picture of waiting....

We'll try to get a good night's sleep and give it a go again tomorrow.
