Trying to set a schedule of getting McKenna to sleep is no small feat. However, after the past two nights, we may be on to something. After her evening feeding, I will begin bouncing her on the exercise ball (a must for all new and soon-to-be parents). This may last anywhere from 10 -30 minutes, depending on her ability to fall asleep. At the point that she is sound asleep, I begin the transfer. If you can imagine transferring highly explosive delicate chemicals from one place to another, that is the care involved in moving baby. The process begins and McKenna is placed ever-so-gently into her swing. Note of caution: should baby awake, the entire process must start over--not fun at 12:30 a.m. The rocking of the swing in conjunction with just the right mixture of sounds (i.e. waves, white noise, etc), must be synchronized in this effort. It is then, and only then, am I able to catch a few hours of sleep on the couch, before the 3 a.m. feeding, at which point I can return to the bed.
At some point we will figure out how to get her to sleep in her crib or bassinet, but so far we are resigned to keeping her in our bed. One step at a time. At least it is still summer and summer school is much less demanding than the actual school year. Good work Team Fariss
